Fish Away From Home

Fish of Harlow and Surrounding Area

For this work my intention was to create a visual collection of all of the fish and fish motifs I saw during my entire 3 month Harlow trip (images spanning from April 28th to July 7th, to be exact). I chose to display them on a website because it just felt more natural, choosing a google folder or even an instagram page felt uncreative (no offence to those who chose to do that). I wanted the images to be more than just a bunch of pictures, I wanted them to feel connected. The process of collecting the images was never forced, but instead felt like a game of 'I spy', always on high alert of any fishy figures. Similar in a way to the act of fishing, simply waiting for the moment you get one, fishing rod (digital camera) at the ready.

For the first time in my life I had a literal ocean of fish between myself and home. With Newfoundlands massive connection to fishing and its industries, its no wonder that I gained an interest in fish; even if its only visually, as I am allergic. I love fish, they're beautiful and stupid and they confuse me a lot. They really felt like the only reasonable choice for me to collect for this project. So this site acts as my fish tank, displaying everything I've fished up.

Fun Fact:
On July 9th, Al slowly drank one (1) monster energy (zero sugar) and worked on this website for 7 straight hours (from 5:30-12:30). This includes zero (0) food breaks or phone breaks, not even a break to read my discord messages, and maybe one (1) or two (2) bathroom breaks. No, i dont know how or why I did it either, I was planning to work on other projects. I am very sweaty though.

Cabbage Fact:
I dont think Gerard knows what a cabbage fact is.
